French Ici Tutoring provides online French lessons to young people, adults and families. The safety and wellbeing of every young person we teach comes before everything else. This policy sets out how we work and what parents and carers can expect.
All lessons are taught by Nathalie, a native French speaker, trained teacher and former Head of French who spent many years teaching in secondary schools.
No other person teaches lessons or has access to them.
Lessons take place over video call, usually Zoom or Google Meet, arranged in advance. Nothing happens through private messaging apps or social media.
For any learner under 18, lessons are arranged through their parent or carer, who receives the joining details. Parents and carers are welcome to be present, to sit in on any lesson or to be in the same room. No notice is needed and no permission is required.
Lessons are one to one, or shared with members of the same family or household. There are no unplanned or unscheduled sessions.
Under French law, everyone has the right to control the use of their own image (Code civil, article 9). For that reason, lessons are only recorded if you agree to it. For a learner under 18, we ask for the agreement of both the parent or carer and the learner.
Where lessons are recorded, there are two reasons: Nathalie uses the recording to write up lesson notes, and learners can rewatch their own lesson to practise between sessions.
Recordings are shared only with the learner and, for anyone under 18, their parent or carer. They are stored securely, never published and never used for any other purpose.
You can withdraw your agreement at any time, before a lesson or partway through a course. Just say so and recording stops. It does not affect the lesson in any other way. A shared lesson is only recorded if everyone taking part agrees.
Messages go to the parent or carer's email address. Where something needs to reach the learner directly, such as homework or a resource, the parent or carer is always kept in copy. There is no contact with a learner under 18 that a parent cannot see.
Nathalie will not:
If anything in a lesson suggests a child may be at risk of harm, we will act. French law requires anyone who knows a child is being mistreated to inform the authorities (Code pénal, article 434-3), and we take that duty seriously.
Where it is safe and appropriate, we will raise a concern with the parent or carer first. Where we believe a child is at immediate risk, or where raising it with a parent could increase that risk, we will report directly to the relevant authority without first seeking consent.
In France this means the child protection unit of the local département (the CRIP), the national child protection line on 119, and the police on 17 or 112 in an emergency. Where a learner lives outside France, we contact the child protection services in their country, for example local authority children's social care in the UK, or 999 in an emergency.
Any concern is recorded in writing with the date, what was observed and what action was taken. These records are kept securely and separately from ordinary lesson notes.
If you have a concern about anything relating to your child's lessons, email bonjour@french-ici-tutoring.com. Concerns are taken seriously, responded to within 48 hours and never held against the learner.
If you would rather not come to us, you can call 119 (Allo Enfance en Danger) in France, free and open day and night, or the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000 in the UK.
